Hi I’m Lisa Morrissey. I am an acupuncturist and have decided to start blogging about all things I am passionate about. Health, Food, Exercise, Meditation and of course Acupuncture
As this is my first blog I would like to dedicate it to telling you a bit about me. Then my ongoing blogs will be more specific about fertility and pregnancy health related topics that I feel might be of interest to you.
I am a full time acupuncuturist and my clinic is on South William Street in Dublin. Holistic Fertility Centre . Acupuncture is my passion. The Ancient Chinese discovered that health and wellness, balance and harmony came about in the body when you look at exercise like Qi Gong or Tai Chi, look at your nutrition and mindfulness and manage your emotions. I have found over the years that some simple steps bring out the best in me. I’m sure you agree with me in most of these but do you practice them?
Go to bed before midnight, sleep 8 hours, rise early, exercise daily, eat healthy, drink water, meditate and maintain a positive inner dialogue. Obvious, right but a lot of us still don’t follow this path. Mindfulness is an area that I am very passionate about, I spent a month in Thailand where I stayed with the monks and did a 10 day Vipassana which is a 10 day silent meditation where you get up daily at 4am and don’t eat after noon.
In TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) a person’s diet, emotions and stress levels all link directly to a person’s health. This is why in China people use acupuncture as a preventative measure as well as for ailments and I see that becoming more and more the case here now too.
I started studying acupuncture after I had a gym injury that resulted in a lot of hip pain for a long period of time. I spent 1 year and a lot of money trying to get it right with different therapies, a mix of Western and holistic but nothing was working. Then I heard about acupuncture and decided to give it a go. After 2 sessions the pain was gone, not completely but most of the time it was gone, I couldn’t believe it. I love reading and so I started reading lots of books about acupuncture. I became fascinated with this old medicine that goes back 5,000 years and then one day I thought how cool it would be to work in an area that firstly I found fascinating and secondly meant helping people and giving something back and that is where my interest in acupuncture developed from.
I specialise in fertility, pregnancy and prebirth, this is something that has come about organically and I very much enjoy it, especially because the benefits can be so rewarding and I will be blogging a lot about topics in this area.
I love babies and I love pregnant women because they are enjoying one of the happiest times of their lives. The feeling when a client comes in with the news that she is pregnant against the odds, nothing makes me happier. Aswell as fertility, I see clients all through pregnancy with things like insomnia, back pain, psoriasis, sinusitis, carpel tunnel, edema, heart burn, morning sickness, weak baby heartbeat and then later, prebirth acupuncture, cervical ripening, breech position, induction. I would often include Chinese herbs as part of the treatment.
During a session, we don’t just have an acupuncture treatment, I might also use moxibustion, cupping, electro acupuncture or may prescribe a herbal formula for you to take.
I’m all for the sense of soul that comes with community spirit and I am always happy to accommodate those who are unwaged so please don’t let that hold you back, everyone deserves their health and if you would like a treatment, we can always work something out.
