Learning that your baby is in breech position can be stressful and probably a little (a lot) upsetting. The birthing plan you have been moving towards might now be in doubt, and you had really hoped to have a natural birth.

But all hope is not lost! There are ways to try convince your baby to turn around into a head down position. And here at Babysteps we use Moxibustion for this.

 What is Moxibustion?

Moxibustion is the process of burning the dried herb mugwort on certain areas of the body, and in the case of breech position, the outside of the lower edge of your baby toes.

How does Moxibustion work?

The herb does not directly touch your skin, but the smoke from the moxa stick activate skin receptors, which is turn promotes the release certain hormones that cause small contractions in your uterus with the aim of encouraging the baby to turn around. Please note, that it would not induce labour.

We then give you a moxa stick to bring home with you, where you will do the treatment for 20 minutes every day for 10 consecutive days. Most women ask a family member or friend to hold the stick for them. All the steps are given to you in an easy to follow pdf.

We have had many success stories here at the clinic with baby’s turning to allow their expectant mother’s move closer to the birthing experience they are planning for. One of them is the beautiful Rachel from Mywellbeing.ie, you can read her story here.
